The Head of Mission of EUBAM Rafah, Colonel Alain FAUGERAS, received the acting Head of the EU RepresentativeOffice in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, Mr John GATT-RUTTER, in EUBAM HQ on 16 November 2011. During the meeting, Col. FAUGERAS underlined the significant role of the European Union Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) Rafah at the time of its deployment at the Rafah Crossing Point. ‘’Our aim was to provide a Third Party presence at the Rafah Crossing Point in order to contribute to its opening and to build up confidence between the Government of Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA)’’, he stated. Col. FAUGERAS also presented an update of EUBAM's redeployment plan to increase rapidly the strength of the mission in case the conditions would allow.
