Training: Enhancing Awareness in Human Rights and Gender

Seventeen Managers of the General Administration for Borders and Crossings (GABC) participated in the 2-day training “Enhancing Awareness in Human Rights and Gender” in Jericho, on 22 and 23 March 2016. The programme outline, set up according to the needs of Public Administrations, was conducted by EUBAM Ethics, Human Rights and Gender Adviser together with two Eupol Copps Human Rights Experts.

Being part of the Joint Road Map signed between the GABC and EUBAM in August 2015, this interactive training addressed to managers from GABC, Customs, Civil Police, Civil Affairs and the Intelligence Services. Beyond remembering Human Rights based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the attendees discovered the current Palestinian Authority Human Rights Legal Framework and Rule of Law principles. According to the UN Conventions against Corruption and on the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women, 4 working groups analysed potential risks of Human rights violations and suggested concrete measures to protecting/promoting Human Rights and Gender in their profession-specific Border Management environment.
