09.11.2006 EUBAM Second Medal Parade

The European Union Border Assistance Mission (EU BAM) celebrates today, Thursday 9th November, his second Medal Parade. The ceremony has been chaired by EU BAM’s Head of Mission, Lt. Gen. Pietro Pistolese, he awarded the European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP) medal to 30 Mission officers. Service Medal is an award for all civilian and military personnel who have participated en an EU-led crises- management operation and served in the area of operation.

EU BAM is contributing to confidence building between Palestinian Authority and Israel Government. Since the Mission started operations one year ago, on 26th November 2005 till 25th of June 2006 a total of 323,000 persons have been processed trough RCP, an average of 1,318 persons have cross the border every day of effective activity.

From the starting of the crisis on June 25th to this very day EUBAM efforts resulted in RCP being open 18 days allowing 47,000 people crossing. Since then, this mission has been constantly ready to carry on its activity and to put every possible effort in order to return, as much as possible, according to the difficult current situation, to an ordinary activity with a regular opening of the Terminal.
